How To Dress For Wimbledon

If you’re lucky enough to have a ticket to the oldest tennis tournament in the world, it’s time to get planning your outfit. Picture strawberries and cream, panama hats, blazing sun followed by rain, and of course, world-class players and breakthrough talent. The buzz off court is every bit as iconic as the play on it, so deciding what to wear is all part of the experience.

We’ve put together some of our favourite Wimbledon looks to take the guesswork out of what to wear for a day of champagne, centre-court drama and neatly-manicured lawns.

The Wimbledon Dress Code - For Spectators

Unlike the famously strict dress code for players, there aren’t any official guidelines for tennis fans attending the tournament. However, dressing smart-casual across each area is the norm, unless you’re in the Royal Box where a formal jacket and tie is required. We recommend staying away from things like ripped jeans, sports trainers, slogan t-shirts and anything too casual - this is Wimbledon after all.

Suit Up for Centre Court

What to wear to Centre Court

Did you know Centre Court can seat up to 15,000 people? The atmosphere is electric and spectators dress up in acknowledgement of the prestigious sporting event taking place, especially for the more high-profile matches. A two-piece suit works well, with navy often a popular choice. If the weather forecast is sunny, stay cool with an airy linen suit in a light shade like the Stone Linen Suit from Alexandre, or if you want something that feels a bit different, the Sage Linen Suit is guaranteed to earn you compliments. Wear your suit over a crisp white shirt and leave unbuttoned at the collar for a more relaxed look. Add a tie for the big matches.

Luckily, Centre Court and Court No.1 have a retractable roof for when it rains, but you may still need to pack an umbrella as you move between the courts and restaurants.

The Perfect Match: Blazer and Chinos

Men's Wimbledon Outfits

You don’t need to wear a full suit to look smart. A pair of tailored Navy Chinos with light blazer in a neutral shade like the Oatmeal Jersey Blazer is a classic combination and will look good across all of the courts. Shades like navy and beige are both easy to build outfits around, so start here if you’re not sure. You can add a revere collar shirt or a polo underneath, depending on the forecast. Round things off with suede loafers and a decent pair of sunglasses, maybe even a Panama hat - at Wimbledon staple.

Courtside Casual

Smart Casual Wimbledon Outfit

If you’re picnicking on The Hill (more commonly known as Henman Hill or Murray Mound) or attending the more relaxed matches, go for something like the Oatmeal Stripe Linen Shirt, a Knit Polo or the Ecru Jersey Shirt and pair with chino shorts or linen trousers for easy wearing that still looks polished. You can’t always rely on a British summer, so tie a light sweater round your shoulders for a chic but practical way to carry an extra layer. Fresh white leather trainers or a suede loafer finish the look and keep you comfy throughout the day.
