Don’t be weather beaten this autumn with our latest coats and accessories

dont-be-weather-beaten

Living on this great island of ours between the North Sea and the Atlantic the famous British weather is sure to throw everything at us as we head towards winter. Whether it’s rain, wind, sleet or snow you won’t get caught out with the latest range of coats, hats, scarves and accessories now available at Suit Direct online and in-store.

Coats

From sturdy wool overcoats to rain macs and the timeless Harrington jacket our great selection of coats and jackets from top brand names like Pierre Cardin, Racing Green and Italian design house Cerruti 1881 can help to keep the elements out this season.

Overcoats

If you’re looking for warmth as well as protection from the elements in a more formal style then you need an overcoat. Traditional overcoats are designed to be worn over the top of a suit or formal jacket so are generally slightly larger than their size might suggest. Overcoats are typically tailored from heavyweight cloths and designed to be both hardwearing and to keep out the winter chill. Because of the nature of the cloths used they are generally better to wear on dry colder days as they tend to put on a few kilos when exposed to the rain!

This Charcoal Donegal Overcoat from Racing Green is cut from a traditional Donegal twill in a tailored block (inbetween regular and slim) for a classic formal overcoat look. The neat modern lines and understated details such as the contrasting printed lining and multiple external and internal pockets make this an easy and practical choice. Our favourite detail is the contrast velvet collar which feels great against the neck when the collar is turned-up, which is often a necessity on colder days.

If your commute typically involves a drive to work or sitting on a train then you may prefer a shorter style of coat, often referred to as a car coat or occasionally a reefer. This double-breasted military style overcoat from Aston & Gunn is a classic example. The shorter cut makes sitting more comfortable with only a minor sacrifice to length. We love the great Navy styling details on this piece like the storm flap across the collar, the shoulder epaulets and the button-down V-shaped pockets. The purple polka dot lining adds a hidden touch of class.

Rain Macs

The Mac, or Mackintosh to give it its proper name, another winter must-have. Typically made from lighter, water-resistant or showerproof fabrics rain macs are designed to be protective but lightweight enough to carry over an arm or fold easily into a briefcase. Many rain macs are often unlined to improve breathability and wearer comfort when worn over a suit in that hectic commute.

For a real touch of class this classic sand beige mackintosh from Cerruti 1881 is one of the best we’ve ever seen with detailing which puts other lesser macs to shame. Check out the ventilation rivets under the arm, the beautiful horn-type branded buttons and numerous pockets. As a finishing touch the Cerruti 1881 branding is neatly stamped onto a metal branding plate discreetly positioned on the left arm but just visible enough to be spotted by those who will recognise the mark of this exceptional designer label.

If your budget can’t quite stretch to Cerruti then look no further than this showerproof rain mac from Aston&Gunn which has many of the same features and a shower-resistant fabric at a fraction of the price.

Scarves

Having sorted your coat you’ll then need the must-have winter accessory, the scarf. From warm woollen scarves to lighter silk scarves there’s a great selection of ideas in our gloves, scarves and hats department.

This Martin blue stripe scarf from Tom English is a great-looking option to keep your neck warm this winter. Knitted from a soft, yet hardwearing acrylic yarn the colourful stripe design of this scarf will look great with any suit and coat combination.

Silky dress scarves are a must-have with Black Tie eveningwear but can also look great with a casual jacket or Harrington. This Black Bug Silk Scarf from renowned accessories house Simon Carter is made from 100% silk and has an eyecatching black and white insect motif featuring butterflies and beetles. This would look great paired with a classic black Harrington like this Black Quilted Bomber Jacket from Cerruti 1881.

Gloves

Our glove collection proved a big hit last autumn and we struggled to keep up with demand. We’re pleased to confirm that our bestselling styles are back in stock this autumn.

One of our favourites is this Green Herringbone Tweed glove from Racing Green. The luxurious combination of tweed on the outside and leather on the inside and palm delivers fashion and function, perfect for that chilly commute or worn as driving gloves on a frosty morning.

If tweed’s not your thing then for all-over rugged style we have several more options from Tom English in black and brown leather to match most outfit combinations. Our favourite leather glove is this black leather glove from Tom English which features a handy press stud fastening on the wrist to ensure a snug fit. Available in a range of sizes from medium to extra large it’s easy to find the perfect fit and at less than £10 they make an ideal Christmas gift.

Hats and Caps

To top off your outfit what better than a tweed cap. Studies have found that 40-45 per cent of all body head is lost through the head so it’s important to cover up if you want to keep warm.

This Sid Charcoal Cap from Tom English comes in a grey and black herringbone cloth and has a vintage retro look. We like the fact that it’s available in different size options (S/M, L/XL) to fit most head sizes. It’s the type of cap that looks just as good taking the dog for a walk on a weekend as it does with a suit and formal overcoat on the daily commute.

Umbrellas

To protect your smart new cap what better than an umbrella. At Suit Direct we’re big fans of the telescopic commuter variety and this crook handle umbrella is no exception. Smart, lightweight and small enough to fit neatly into a briefcase it’s the perfect insurance policy against the weather and the one winter accessory that could really save your bacon if the heavens open unexpectedly.
