A Guide To Super Wool Suits

When you're investing in a quality suit, fabric matters. A Super wool suit is one of the most popular options for style and a luxurious wearing experience. We source our Super wool fabric from renowned Italian mills Reda and Zignone for the finest wool available.
What is Super Wool
Super wool refers to specific grades of pure 100% wool used in suiting. But just because fabric is made of 100% wool, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a super number wool. Super wool is then categorised by its quality and feel, according to how fine the fibres are.
Before processing, each fibre of raw wool is measured in microns to determine its thickness. The finer the fibre, the higher the quality of wool. Each fibre has to reach a thickness of 18.5 microns (0.0185 mm) before it can be classed as ‘super’ and this number gets lower the finer the fibre is.
Super Numbers Explained
Each grade of Super wool is given a number to indicate how fine it is. Higher grades of super fabric typically begin at 100 (at least 18.5 microns), increasing to 120, 130 and above. Any higher than this, and you’re getting into super-luxurious territory, and some of the finest and most expensive suits in the world.
This superior quality comes with a caveat. Once you get to Super 130 or higher, the wool is naturally finer, and therefore more delicate and less suitable for everyday wear. Super 100-120 is the sweet spot for high quality and softness, but with the durability needed for regular business meetings or special occasions.
Which Super Number is Right For You?
Super 100s: A great balance of softness, luxury and durability. Perfect for everyday suiting.
Super 120s–140s: These suits are finer and lighter, feeling a touch more luxurious. Save for special occasions, or when you want to really impress.
Super 150s and above: Suits in this range are best saved for your finest occasions. The fabric is delicate and requires careful wear, but will reward you with supreme smoothness and quality.

Why Choose Super Wool?
If you’re looking for superior quality, or an investment piece that you’ll save for the most special of occasions, a Super wool suit is the one for you. In the world of quality tailoring, Super wool is renowned for its quality and smoothness. Not only does Super wool offer a luxurious wearing experience, the natural properties of wool make your suit breathable, helping to regulate your temperature on both warm and cool days. It’s also lightweight and easy to wear, and like any suit, is available in multiple cuts, shades and patterns.
How to Care for Your Super Wool Suit
A few simple steps after each wear will keep your suit looking its best and ensure you can enjoy it for years to come. It’s always a good idea to invest in a soft, dry fabric brush and gently brush after wear to remove any dust before storing. A cedarwood hanger with broad shoulders will also help to avoid snagging and stretching so your suit retains its shape. After wear, allow the suit to hang in the open to air the fabric before popping in the wardrobe. If you go longer periods between wears, store in a breathable garment bag to keep moths away.
