Should I wear a suit jacket under my graduation gown?

There’s no rule to say you should, so it’s up to you. However, if you’re graduating in summer, you might prefer to leave your suit jacket in the cloakroom or get a member of your party to take care of it while you wear your gown to prevent you from getting too warm.

Do I need to wear a tie to graduation?

A graduation ceremony usually has a formal dress code, so a tie is expected for a formal look. If it’s a more casual affair or there isn’t a specific dress code, ditch the tie and unbutton the top of your shirt for a less formal vibe.

How should I accessorise my graduation suit?

Want to go all out? A three-piece suit with a matching waistcoat creates a polished look, or stick to the classic two-piece if you want to keep it less formal. Finish your outfit with a pocket square or lapel pin for added sophistication - it’s also an easy way to incorporate colour and personality into your suit. Don’t forget about footwear! Wear your best formal shoes. Black or brown brogues work really well, as do loafers if you want to add a fashionable twist. Make sure they’re comfortable too, as you’re likely to be on your feet for most of the day.
